Diary,
Carnival's right around the corner. Best time of the year, isn't it?
My parents decided to take a cruise and left the whole house in Matthews' hands, my older brother who's 19 and loves acting like he's in charge.
With the trip, we got the bright idea to spend Carnival at the house in Búzios. Matthews got the okay from our parents, but with one condition: he had to look after me and Isabella, my 17-year-old sister.
The shit hit the fan when he said he was bringing his girlfriend. Isabella didn't waste a second and said she'd bring her boyfriend too. That was enough to set Matt off, saying our parents would never allow it.
But Isa's got a mind of her own. Once she decides something, that's it. She looked him dead in the eye and shot back:
— They’ll only find out if you tell them… and you’re not gonna do that, are you?
In the end, Matthews gave in, but laid down the law: separate rooms. Isabella was pissed. Said our mom already knew she and her boyfriend were fucking, and the usual yelling match kicked off. I just watched the whole thing like it was a show, sipping my hot chocolate from my pink Barbie mug, trying not to laugh.
I invited Carol and Diego to come too. When Carol heard Isabella was bringing her boyfriend, she immediately said she’d bring hers. Now the only thing left was Diego deciding to bring his girlfriend… and me ending up the only one without a partner, playing third wheel.
Carol noticed I was worried and even offered to have her boyfriend bring a friend. I laughed but didn’t go for it. Truth is, I was happy being single. I just wanted to enjoy Carnival with no strings attached.
That’s when it hit me.
For the first time in my life, nobody was gonna be watching me. Nobody was gonna tell me what to do. And nobody had any idea what I was about to get into. Not even me.
This was gonna be the Carnival that turned my whole life upside down.
